ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਪੁਰਬ

Gurpurab marks the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469), the first Sikh Guru, whose teachings of one God, equality, honest living, and seva form the foundation of Sikhism. It is the most universally observed Sikh festival, centred on the Guru Granth Sahib and continuous devotional practice.

Observances

1. Akhand Path

   A continuous 48-hour reading of the entire Guru Granth Sahib, concluding on the Gurpurab.

2. Nagar Kirtan

   Procession led by the Panj Pyare with hymn-singing.

3. Langar

   Community free meal open to all.

In the US

Gurdwaras across the US hold Akhand Path and Nagar Kirtan; some coordinate city processions. Langar is offered to the wider community, often as interfaith outreach.
