ਮਾਘੀ

Maghi falls on the solar transition of Makar Sankranti. For Sikhs it commemorates the martyrdom of the Chali Mukte — forty Sikhs who died fighting for Guru Gobind Singh at Muktsar in 1705 and were granted liberation. The largest observance is the Mela Maghi at Sri Muktsar Sahib. Punjabi Hindus observe it as Makar Sankranti with ritual bathing and til-gur.

Gurdwaras hold special diwans and langar; many families combine Lohri and Maghi into a single weekend gathering.
