ਤੀਆਂ

Teeyan celebrates the monsoon and womanhood in Punjab. Traditionally women gather to dance the gidda, sing boliyan, swing on decorated peenghan (swings) hung from trees, and wear henna. Largely a cultural and seasonal festival enjoyed across Punjabi communities, with Hindu associations to Teej observances for marital wellbeing.

   Swinging on decorated swings during the rains.

In the US

Punjabi cultural associations and Sikh women's groups host Teeyan melas with gidda competitions, food, and music in late summer.
